For the Nasty gal in you

Nasty Gal is an American online store that sells both new and vintage clothes with attitude and sex appeal (Samantha Jones from Sex and the City comes to mind). Here are a few of my personal favourites:

And the shoes....

The clothes aren't cheap, but definitely affordable. And unfortunately, because they're based in San Francisco, the postage and packaging price starts at around $18. It just all depends on how much you want it..

Major Lazer feat. Vybz Kartel

I woke up on New Year's day with this playing in my mind....

Topshop's Jeans Negligence

Ok, so I know there are more important things to be worrying about but this has been bothering me for a while...

When browsing topshop.com this morning, I saw a pair of jeans that looked promising, clicked on the link, as you do, looked at the alternative views, and was horrified by what I saw! Practically all of their jeans from the back view are ill-fitting, creased and the mannequins I presume the photographs are taken on appear to have wedgies.

For such a massive, established brand, Topshop really needs to up its promotional game in this area, as the shots make the jeans look less than desirable. I'm sure everyone will agree that finding a new pair of jeans to fit properly is not easy to say the least, but please Topshop make some effort to make it easier for us!

The Isle of Lemnos: Women only

Over Christmas Jason and the Argonauts was on TV. Not the one from a hundred years ago with all the terrible (but great) effects and monsters, a more recent version. Anyway, I watched it, the whole 2 1/2 hours, and was taken with the Isle of Lemnos; an island completely inhabited by women. Jason and his crew stop off from the ship, thinking they have hit the jackpot, little do they know that these clever, conniving women are in fact planning their murders.
Luckily Jason and the rest learn of this before its too late, (informed by the only woman on deck might I add). So they all get out safely, if you were concerned.

It turns out that the women had been made smelly as a punishment from Aphrodite, resulting in their husbands deserting them for Thracian women, typical! So what do the ladies do? Kill their husbands of course.

Have to say their lifestyle seems pretty interesting, maybe appealing. They're living in harmony with all their girlfriends, getting on with life pleasantly, none of that stress bullshit. Then recurrently they get male visitors, they do the do, kill them and then get on with their lives as normal.

Sounds like modern day Girl Power to me. Hmm, I wonder what Lemnos is sayin nowadays anyway..

This week I am mostly listening to...

80s Soul/ Funk. Big tunes such as:

The Gap Band- Outstanding

Jocelyn Brown- Somebody Else's guy

Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway- Back together again

If in doubt refer to Will Smith's Big Willie Style album, coz Big Willie clearly knows about 80s funk. Countless samples including:

The Whispers- And the beat goes on (Will Smith- Miami)

All songs best played blasting..

Carnaby Street

Over the Christmas holidays, an exhibition brought me to Marshall St, which I soon found out was just around the corner from Carnaby Street. Now there's a place i hadn't been to in a while. Carnaby Street was great when I was 14. Miss Sixty, Diesel, Office, Offspring and if I was daring I might pop into one of the many colourful boutiques. But as I grew out of such shops I also grew out of Carnaby Street, next stop was Camden. However, this chance encounter I had with the road has made me realise I must start going back. There are some really nice boutiques around Carnaby St, and although some of the prices are a bit dear you know that half the world won't be wearing it too. Plus they've got some quite good sales on at the moment.

Bolangaro Trevor was one of my finds. The clothes are designed by a couple who were also behind All Saints. The shop is very pricey but has some great stuff. There was a gorgeous leather strapless bodycon dress, that even when on sale was still out of my price range...maybe someday

Carnaby Street and the surrounding Roads also have some lovely jewelry shops which aren't too expensive. There's also the Photographer's gallery nearby, and the Lomography Gallery Store, which both have a great selection of special effect cameras... I would definitely recommend a visit back to the Street

P.S. sorry for the silence

149 united- NYE '09/'10

NYE is definitely my favourite time of year for public transport. Its a time where all the drunks can unite and sing in unison. Because NYE is for everyone, no matter your creed, colour or gender, NYE brings people together. Amen
