Knitwear for Dummies

So I realise most people have a very limited knowledge of knitwear. Just so we're all clear, knitwear is NOT just about knitting scarves and jumpers for Winter. Knitwear is NOT just hand-knitting. And Knitwear is NOT just for Grannies. I think the last straw must have been yesterday, when I showed my dad sketches for my collection. And after over a year on my Knitwear degree, he says "And so all of that will be made from wool?!" NOOOOO Daaaad! Not all knitwear is made from wool, just like not all fabrics are made from silk, and by the way, knitwear can be made from silk yarn too!

So What is Knitwear Design then?
Think of it as Fashion Design, but instead of working with woven fabrics, you work with knitted fabrics. And instead of buying your fabric from a fabric shop, you knit it. Therefore, making fabric and garment.

To give everyone a better understanding, here's some work from a few Knitwear Designers:

And lastly, here's the work of two graduates from my course (Fashion Knitwear Design with Knitted Textiles) at Nottingham Trent:

I hope this clears a few things up! And work by me soon come..
